Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is one of the oldest methods of treatment with local application of ice. It’s used to reduce the temperature of the skin and soft tissues, which leads to a local decrease in blood flow, that further leads to deep vasodilation and blocking of afferent nerves, which reduces the sensation of pain, achieves the suppression of inflammation, edema and muscle spasm.
Cryotherapy can be applied in several ways, such as: cold packs (applied for about 10 minutes several times a day), ice massage (applied for 3-5 minutes several times during the day), immersion (soaking part of the body in cold water), cryospray.
